Mrs. Haley
I am so excited to be teaching first grade again this year! I always knew I wanted to be a teacher since at least 3rd grade, maybe even before that! In fact, anyone who knew me, knew I would one day become a teacher- so here I am! Since I was destined for teaching, I went to UNC Greensboro because they had one of the best teaching programs. Then I came to Willow Springs and couldn’t be any happier than having all of my 19 years of teaching experience here- and all in first grade. In 2008 I earned my Masters from Walden University and got married, which was quite a year! Other than school, I enjoy being with family, spending time at the beach with a good book, and cuddling with my dog.
There is no other year like first grade. Your child comes in with basic reading skills and leaves reading chapter books. They begin with very basic writing abilities and leave able to create whole stories and books. There is never another time in your child’s life where you will see such growth, so please, please enjoy it. Take time to have fun with your child and share some of your memories from when you were young because before you know it, they won’t be so little anymore.
Mrs. Potter
Mrs. Potter is my half-time assistant as I share her with the other Track 4 teacher, Mrs. Lewis. She is fabulous and I am lucky to have her working in my classroom. She is fluent in Spanish, which is so helpful for our Spanish speaking families. She has lots of education experience as she taught high school Spanish and ESL for seven years in California before moving to North Carolina. After serving as a parent volunteer for many years, she joined our staff as a TA in Kindergarten and then as an intervention IA in first grade. She and I have worked together for the past few years. She has even been named WSES Teacher Assistant of the Year - TWICE! Mrs. Potter is the mother of 2 children. Her daughter and son are both at Duke, but once upon a time they were Baby Bengals too! Mrs. Potter spends her weekends with her family and loves spending time outdoors. In her free time, she enjoys reading, cooking, gardening, and crocheting.
